THE bEAR presents

SIGNIFICANT OBJECTS

- stories of what we keep -

“ … my attachment to these material things was an attempt to hold on to a past from which I feared drifting.”

―  Laila Lalami, author of “The Comforts of Clutter”

We are kicking off our 8th season of True Stories, Erzähltes Leben with something different:

Bring us an object that you choose to keep.

A collage of significant objects

Perhaps it’s the favorite sweatshirt you put on whenever you are feeling sick or sad; the crocheted blanket from your grandmother that you wrap yourself in when you need a hug; the empty pen you keep in a glass on your desk as a reminder of your first book you wrote by hand…

When you are “ausmisten”, moving house, packing up - what do you keep and why?

Who are the people these objects trigger? The memories and emotions they conjure up?

Note to storytellers: audiences love stories with conflict!

Elephant blocking a car.

  1. When you prepare your story, reflect on what was it that you wanted?

  2. How high were the stakes to achieve it?

  3. What were the inner and external obstacles, mishaps, challenges that got in the way?

  4. And lastly, how did the experience change you in some way?

For newcomers: join us for an evening of prepared 5-minute stories, spontaneous anecdotes, live music, and simply a lovely time with fellow human beings. The evening tends to be mostly in English, and some stories in German. Stories are all true, personal and told without notes.

Tell us about a significant object that you choose to keep and why.

You may be voted the audience’s Favorite Story of the evening and be invited to the Eve of the Champs to take place on November 18th during the True Story Fest ‘22.

The Bear is made possible by the generous donations & ticket sales of our audience, the heartwarming contributions of our storytellers, and the committed work of our core team of volunteers, as well as, the non-profit organization THE BEAR e.V., and our partner Moving-Speaker.com.
