Learn how to find & tell your story in a fun and supportive atmosphere with Dyane Neiman, artistic director of The Bear. True stories. Erzaehltes Leben.
Storytelling is a skill that you can master. If you are willing to stretch your skills, knowledge, and imagination, you can become a compelling storyteller.
This inspiring, challenging, and uplifting one-day workshop in the ancient art of storytelling is presented by the creators of The Bear, Dyane Neiman and Ben McGuire.
You will learn the art of unpacking our ordinary stories to discover the delicious details and transformational moments that make them extraordinary.
Some of the topics we will cover in this experiential workshop are:
Why does your story matter?
What’s your unique voice and style?
Story as visual art – painting pictures on stage
Theatre - using physical space to create a theatre for your story
Embodied storytelling – using your body as another voice
The power in vulnerability
Overcoming fear and nerves
We create a supportive space for you to learn, improve, and have fun while growing a crucial skill for communication, leadership, and life. The day culminates in a nourishing dinner from Doll`s Kitchen and an “urban campfire” performance for you to tell your extraordinary story.
Learn how the brain is hardwired for storytelling to easily and quickly understand, remember and take action
Discover techniques to help you find and structure your story
Receive motivating feedback on your unique voice and style as a storyteller
Understand how to move your storytelling from common to compelling
Have fun meeting and sharing your passion with other storytelling enthusiasts

Everyone has stories to tell… funny uncles, strange neighbours, near misses, tragic accidents, romances, ghosts, meetings with famous people… Most of us don’t realise just how many stories we have and the rest of us don’t know how best to tell them.
This workshop will help you to:
And… if we have time…
We’ll do some relaxation and guided imagining. We’ll share our stories in twos and our insights in the group. We will help, encourage and learn from one another. We will laugh, have a good time and learn a whole lot.
And, if you enjoy this workshop, you might want to go on and learn how to make other stories your own.
CATHERINE BROPHY is a professional writer, story-teller, broadcaster, audiologist, and she also facilitates workshops. She’s a Gemini… they’re the cosmic multi-taskers!
She leads a blameless life in Ireland, but travels whenever she can. She’s been rescued by a circus troupe in Serbia, had breakfast with a Zambian chief, ate camel stew in the Sahara, and was kicked by a horse on the Mexican plain. Yeah… she has a couple of stories to tell.
Catherine is a storytelling coach usually via Internet for The Bear. On July 21st you can experience her “live” on stage at The Bear and in this workshop on July 25th.
